Tororo, Uganda | By Michael Wandati | In a remarkable display of solidarity and enthusiasm, thousands of Jopadhola community members gathered on June 7, 2024, to warmly welcome His Royal Highness Kwar Adhola at the Rubongi sub-county headquarters in Tororo district, Eastern Uganda.

This grand event marked a significant milestone for the Padhola region as Kwar Adhola embarked on a historic tour leading up to the celebration of the 25th anniversary of his coronation.

Addressing the gathered crowd, Kwar Adhola emphasized the paramount importance of peace, unity, and development. His speech echoed through the hearts of his listeners, reinforcing the shared values and aspirations of the Padhola people.

Kwar Adhola expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards the residents of Rubongi and Nyangole sub-counties for their unwavering support and love for Padhola.

He praised their steadfast commitment to the region’s progress, acknowledging their collective efforts in fostering a harmonious and prosperous community.

The significance of this event was further underscored by the presence of Jago Richard Joseph Obbo, who rallied the Jopadhola community to actively participate in the upcoming grand celebration.

He called upon all Jopadholas to turn out in large numbers to support the 25th coronation ceremony, scheduled to take place on August 7, 2024, at Achilet Primary School in Nyangole County.

“The 25th coronation is not just a milestone for Kwar Adhola; it is a celebration of our shared history, our unity, and our commitment to progress,” Jago Richard Joseph Obbo stated. “Let us come together as one community, in great numbers, to honor our heritage and support our leader.”

Jopadhola in eastern Uganda are preparing to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the crowning of Kwar Adhola Owor this coming August, and a series of festivities are planned.

The upcoming coronation ceremony at Achilet Primary School promises to be a historic event, celebrating not only the 25 years of Kwar Adhola’s reign but also the resilience and solidarity of the Padhola people.

The celebration organizing committee has scheduled a marathon, a cultural week, a bicycle race, and a dinner leading up to the Silver Jubilee celebrations.

As the Padhola community prepares for this momentous occasion, the echoes of Kwar Adhola’s drumbeat of peace, unity, and development continue to resonate, inspiring all to contribute towards a brighter and more harmonious future for Padhola.

Who is 98-year-old Kwar Adhola Moses Owor?

Twenty five years ago on on the 7th August 1999, His Majesty Moses Stephen Owor was installed as the cultural leader of the Jopadhola. The historic event took place in King George V stadium in Tororo Town after a cultural ritual performed by a one Opeti Obieto (RIP) and His Grace Yona Okoth (RIP) the then Archbishop of the Church of Uganda. Kwar Adhola Moses Owor is now 98 years old.

Kwar Adhola, has a rich profile that has seen him serve the country as Permanent Secretary in the then Ministry of Labour where he played a key role sowing the seeds for the formation of NSSF. He served the Federation of Uganda Employers as Executive Director and later joined the International Labour Organization based in Nairobi, Kenya as Chief Technical Advisor.

He was among others, Chairperson of the Boards of Kilembe Mines Ltd and Produce Marketing Board and served on various other committees of government such as that one which made in 1987 recommendations to rationalize the public service of Uganda.

The leader of the Jopadhola was elected by consensus by an electoral college of the 52 registered clans in 1998. Hitherto each clan separately had its own clan leader called Kwar Nono (clan grandfather). And whereas the clan leaders had close association on account of common origin, none of them superintended over the others.

Jago Richard Joseph Obbo called on the Japadhola community to support the 25th coronation ceremony with great enthusiasm.

The new cultural leader was given the title Kwar Adhola (grandfather of the Jopadhola), and the new Union of the original and affiliated clans was christened Tieng Adhola Cultural Institution.

In other spheres, he was the first African Head of the Laity of Christ the King Parish in the seventies, was Charter President of Tororo Rotary Club, Member of board of Governors of St. Anthony Hospital, Tororo, the Benedictine Eye Hospital, also in Tororo and St. Peter’s College, Tororo. He has several children, serving the society in various public and private capacities.
