Iganga, Uganda | By Michael Wandati | The Busoga East Police have confirmed the death of Simon Peter Aleper, a former Member of Parliament, in a hit-and-run accident. The incident occurred at around 1 am at Bukoona on the Iganga-Tirinyi highway.
Aleper was driving a V8 vehicle with the registration number UAP 787Q when it collided with another unkown vehicle coming from Iganga while Aleper’s vehicle was heading from Mbale.
“The vehicle, which is still at large, lost control and veered, knocking the victim’s vehicle,” AIP Brian Magoola OC Iganga Police Station said.
According to the Busoga East Region Police, Aleper died on the spot. Assistant Inspector of Police Magoola, along with the traffic police, attended the site.
They transferred Aleper’s body to Mulago National Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination and moved his vehicle to the Iganga police yard for further inspection.
Aleper previously served as the legislator for Moroto Municipality from 2011-2016 and was the Vice Chairperson of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) for the Karamoja region.

He joined the race in 2021 but trailed in third place eventual winner to Francis Adome Lorika and Fred Angella.
Hon. Simon Peter Aleper was also a member of the NRM’s Central Executive Committee.
Aleper leaves behind a wife and six children, and was the owner of several properties in Moroto town, including the building rented by Wazalendo SACCO.
He will be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Kangole Town Council, Napak District.
