Kampala, Uganda | By Michael Wandati | The Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court has ordered the remand of 24-year-old Kenneth Niwamanya to Luzira prison on charges of forging the signature of First Lady Janet Kataha Museveni.
Niwamanya, who resides in Bulenga, Wakiso district, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi on Wednesday 4, September 2024 afternoon.
The prosecution informed the court that Niwamanya is accused of forging letters that featured the scanned signature of the First Lady, who also holds the position of Minister of Education and Sports. He allegedly used these letters to appoint her as the patron of his organization, Umoja Youth Initiative Development Uganda.

Niwamanya reportedly used the forged documents to solicit funds from various offices for an event planned at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds. Despite pleading not guilty to the charges, Niwamanya was denied bail due to the absence of sufficient sureties.
His legal troubles began on August 22, 2024, when he was arrested at the Ministry of Education offices in Kampala with the forged documents in his possession. The court has remanded him to Luzira prison until September 23, while police investigations are ongoing.
