Kampala, Uganda | By Michael Wandati | Apple is set to reveal its latest iPhone, powered by the new A18 chip, at an upcoming event on Monday. According to a report by the Financial Times, the A18 chip has been developed using Arm’s latest V9 chip architecture, owned by SoftBank.
The highly anticipated fall event will take place on September 9 at Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, California, where the tech giant is expected to unveil new iPhones along with updates to other devices and apps.
Apple’s partnership with Arm saw a significant boost last September, with a deal extending their collaboration on chip technology beyond 2040, further strengthening Arm’s position in the industry.

Arm announced in July that its V9 chip design now drives 50 per cent of global smartphone revenue. The company owns the intellectual property behind the architecture used in most of the world’s smartphones, which it licenses to major players like Apple.
Apple incorporates Arm’s technology in designing its custom chips for iPhones, iPads, and Macs. The two companies share a long history, dating back to 1990 when Apple co-founded Arm before launching its “Newton” handheld computer in 1993, which featured an Arm-based processor.
Although the Newton was unsuccessful, Arm’s low power consumption technology became essential for mobile phone chips, enhancing battery life and propelling the company to dominance in the market.
