Gulu, Uganda | URN | Police have opened a General Enquiry File (GEF) against popular singer Joseph Mayanja alias Jose Chameleone after he allegedly held a music show in Gulu city contrary to the suspension of social gatherings.
On Tuesday 20, July 2021 night, Chameleone staged a show at Bus Terminal, a famous hangout in Bardege–Layibi Division in Gulu in northern Uganda, attracting a crowd starved of social entertainment following a ban on social gatherings to contain the coronavirus pandemic.
In a 44-second social media video clip supposedly recorded by one of the revellers, Chameleone is seen singing “Kigwa Leero” amidst several revellers, the majority were not wearing facemasks and not observing the recommended social distance to stop the spread of COVID-19.
David Mudong Ongom, the Aswa River Region police spokesperson said that police intervened and dispersed the crowd shortly after receiving a tip-off from concerned residents.

Denise Odongpiny Odwong, the Gulu resident city commissioner, says that police stopped the music show and ordered the singer back to his hotel room in Gulu city.

According to Odongpiny, he is still studying the statutory instrument by the Ministry of Health on COVID-19 guidelines to establish whether they take any legal action against the singer for staging a music show in Gulu.
Since July 19, Chameleon has been moving around Gulu city in his white Toyota V8 vehicle.
