Lira, Uganda | URN | An applicant has collapsed and died during the Local Defense Unit (LDU) Personnel recruitment exercise in Lira city.
The deceased is 28-year-old Solomon Amone, a resident of Adyel in Lira city West division who died during physical exercise session.
Amone collapsed and passed on shortly after covering 2.5 out of the 5-kilometre run.
He had completed the first phase of the recruitment including screening and qualified academically.
A team from the Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) 4th Division are in Lira conducting interviews for people who would wish to join the Local Defense Unit (LDU).
The two-day exercise targets to recruit 235 people from Alebtong, Dokolo, Lira district and city.

Flavia Terimulungi, the UPDF 5th Infantry Division spokesperson confirmed the death of the applicant, saying that the deceased might have been on medication for an illness, which they are yet to establish.
Lawrence Egole, the Lira Resident City Commissioner (RDC) described the incident as unfortunate, saying the applicant died before he could be taken to the hospital.
The deceased’s body has been taken to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem.
