Pader, Uganda | URN | A 45-year-old man in Pader district has succumbed to head injuries he sustained during a fight over Shillings 1,000 in a bar.

The deceased has been identified as Walter Okello, a resident of Lapul sub-county.

He was reportedly hit on the head with a big stick by his colleague Francis Opio while drinking alcohol in a bar in Lagara South village in Ikoyo Parish, Lapul sub-county on Sunday night.

It is alleged that Opio picked a quarrel with the deceased over his missing Shillings 1,000 leading to a fight.

According to police reports, the suspect picked a big stick and hit Okello on his head leaving him unconscious. The Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson David Ongom Mudong says that Okello was rushed for emergency medical treatment at Pajule health center IV but was pronounced dead on Monday 13, September 2021 morning.

Mudong says the suspect has since been arrested and is in detention at Pajule police station. He notes that police have also retrieved the stick which the suspect used during the fight as an exhibit.

According to Mudong, a postmortem was conducted and the deceased’s body has already been handed to his relatives for burial.

He says the police are continuing with the investigations. A case of murder has been registered under CRB 9/2021 at Pajule Police station.
