Moroto, Uganda | URN | Staff from Save the Children Uganda in Moroto district in the Northern Region of Uganda were on Wednesday 21, June 2023 ordered by security to vacate their premises after a bomb was found buried under one of the offices currently undergoing renovations.
The bomb was reportedly found by casual workers while repairing Save the Children office premises on Wednesday 21, June 2023. They immediately informed the police.
Michael Longole, Mt Moroto Regional police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, saying that the scene has been cordoned off while awaiting the arrival of bomb experts to safely detonate the device.
Upon investigation by the Counter Terrorism (CT) team, it was confirmed that the device was indeed explosive. Longole says that they had initially reached out to the bomb experts from the Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF), but they were unavailable.
As a result, their own team from Olilim in Katakwi district was called in to handle the situation.
The security team is maintaining control of the scene, strictly prohibiting anyone from approaching the device due to its potential danger if it were to explode.
