Mbale, Uganda | URN | Police have shot dead the suspected leader of the notorious machete-wielding group responsible for a string of attacks on Mbale city residents and its neighborhood. The suspect has been identified as Ibra Maboni alias Kadanke 25, a resident of Obuyonjo Cell, Nkoma Ward in Mbale City Northern City Division.

Maboni has been on the police wanted list along with others for various crimes. According to Roger Taitika, the Elgon Region Police spokesperson, Maboni was gunned down over the weekend by the police when he resisted arrest in Soweto, Busia District, where he had been hiding.

The deceased was allegedly behind a series of aggravated robberies in Mbale and its surrounding areas.

Others who are still at large are wanted in connection with at least ten aggravated robbery cases reported at various police stations in the Elgon region.

Taitika said the deceased’s body is lying at the Mbale City mortuary pending a postmortem examination before being handed over to his relatives.
