UPDF helicopter bound for DR Congo crashes in Ntoroko

Ntoroko, Uganda | By Michael Wandati | On Tuesday 2, December 2024 at around 2:00 pm, a Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) helicopter crashed crash in the areas of Karugutu-Ntoroko district.

The Ugandan military helicopter was headed to DR Congo after taking off from Ssaka Airfield. According to eyewitnesses, before it crashed, the helicopter hit the roof of two houses before going down into flames.

Jack Magezi, the LCIII Chairperson of Kichwamba Sub County said that the helicopter crashed into the house of a resident only identified as Mukidi, killing him instantly.

According to Maj Naboth Mugisha, the UPDF Airforce spokesperson, the incident is considered accidental, and further information about the crash will be provided later.

Eyewitnesses reported that the helicopter struck a house rooftop, leading to a subsequent fire. Maj Mugisha emphasized that the details of the incident are still to be determined, stating, “This was purely an accident, and information about the event is pending. Meanwhile, the helicopter crashed in an area where there was reportedly a house.”
