Kampala, Uganda | By Michael Wandati | Humphrey Mayanja, the older brother of the famous singing trio comprising Jose Chameleone, Weasel Manizo, and Pallaso, has passed away, family sources have confirmed.

Jose Chameleone took to his Facebook page to share a picture of Mr. Humphrey, accompanied by his name and a crying emoji.

Humphrey, aged 49, had been battling cancer since last year. This came after he experienced stomach complications during a trip to the US, as disclosed by Douglas Mayanja, also known as Weasel, during an interview with local media in February.

“It’s true Humphrey is not well,” Weasel said at the time. “He is suffering from cancer. It’s a trying moment for us and the entire family, especially mom who is also having her own sicknesses.”

In July last year, Humphrey disclosed that during his journey to Boston, he experienced frequent bouts of falling asleep and intermittent fevers.

He shared a photograph taken of him while in the emergency room in Boston, recounting that during a layover at Schiphol airport in the Netherlands for a connecting flight, he felt unwell in a manner he had never experienced before.

Upon returning home and resting, he woke up to find his stomach “inflating” every five minutes.

“This was so painful that I could not walk or eat anything,” he said.

“My Best friend decided to drive me to the ER, I got diagnosed and a decision was made that I be retained for further analysis. They immediately inserted a nasogastric tube (very irritating process) inside me… Anyway it all ended in surgery.”

Nasogastric intubation is a medical procedure that involves inserting a plastic tube through the nose, passing it down the esophagus, and into the stomach. This tube serves various purposes, including removing excess fluids from the stomach and administering medications. Additionally, it can be utilized to deliver a fluid containing nutrients directly into the stomach.

Humphrey, alongside his second-born brother Henry Kasozi and their sister Josephine, distinguished themselves as the only members of the Mayanja family not involved in the entertainment and music recording industry.

Unlike his brothers Joseph Mayanja, better known by the stage name Jose Chameleone, Douglas Mayanja aka Weasel, Pius Mayanja aka Pallaso, and the late Emmanuel Mayanja (AK 47), who gained fame in the entertainment world, Humphrey pursued other endeavors.

In a family where the siblings in the entertainment industry often made headlines for various reasons, Humphrey Mayanja assumed the role of the elder brother, frequently mediating and reconciling his younger siblings whenever conflicts arose.
