Kasese, Uganda | URN | Kasese police are holding three artists accused of producing songs with obscene words. They are Loice Biira alias Lola Loyce, Joshua Kule Mwanawamawe and Nicholas Baluku alias Nico, a music producer and song writer.
The trio came under criticism recently after they published a song titled Obusihe (sweetness). The song that centers more on sex and encourages one to have more sex surfaced on several WhatsApp groups and received to wide condemnation in the district.
Vincent Twesige, the Rwenzori East Region Police Spokesperson, says they swung into action and arrested the artists following a public outcry about the vulgarity of the song. According to Twesige, although the song was released to the public recently, it was produced in 2017.
Twesige says the trio has already conceded to having published the song. He says they have been charged with advertising obscene publication contrary to section 166(1) of the Penal Code. He told this publication that their file has already been sent to the Resident State Attorney for perusal and advice before the suspects appear in court.
Deo Shaiza, the president of Rwenzori Entertainment Association that brings artists together in the district, condemned the production of a song that he said is marred with obscenities and vulgarities.

He blamed the production and subsequent circulation of such music on drugs, which he said have eaten up many artists within in the district.
He apologized to the people of Kasese of behalf of the artists especially to music fans whom he said have been hurt by the song.
He promised to engage the rest of the artists so that they can ensure that such kind of music is not produced again. Shaiza also appealed to artists to desist from abuse of drugs which he said were driving them into doing the unthinkable.
