Kampala, Uganda | URN | A 20-year-old South Sudanese girl has committed suicide by jumping from the 4th floor of an apartment in Wakiso district.
The Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire identifies the deceased as Nyameisha Kueth, who has been staying with her stepmother in Nabweru in Nansana municipality.
According to Owoyesigyire, the South Sudanese girl Nyameisha climbed the building on Wednesday 14, July 2021 morning and jumped to her death.
Owoyesigyire says that police visited the scene and took the deceased’s body to Mulago city mortuary for postmortem as investigations are ongoing.
It is alleged that Nyameisha disappeared from their home on Tuesday 13th, which prompted her brother to file a case of a missing person at Nabweru police station.

But she later returned home before she ended her life at around 6:00 am on Wednesday 14th morning. On July 9th 2021, 33-year-old Alice Babirye jumped to her death from the window of the sixth floor of Kawempe National Referral Hospital after undergoing a C-section.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), close to 800,000 people die by suicide every year, and for each death, there are more than 20 suicide attempts.
A report by the Ministry of Health, Uganda National Institute Public Health (UNIPH) Quarterly Epidemiological Bulletin, indicates that Uganda has a high suicide rate of 18.67 percent.
