Buyende, Uganda | By Michael Wandati | In Buyende District, four individuals have been fined Shs 100,000 each by a village court for dodging to attend a funeral.
The offenders were brought before the Bulondo village court in Ndorwa sub-county for being found working on a sugarcane plantation while a resident had passed on.
Peter Isabirye, the head of mourners in the area, stated that a by-law had been established earlier, prohibiting individuals from engaging in activities such as farming when there is a death in the community.
The fine was determined by the village court, presided over by Moses Isabirye, the Local Council 1 Chairperson for the area.
