Uganda Prison warder shoots girlfriend dead, commits suicide

Mbarara, Uganda | URN | A Uganda Prison warder has shot dead his colleague and longtime girlfriend before taking his own life.

Aloysious Chemutai, 27, attached to Kakiika Prison commonly known as Kyamugorani in Mbarara shot and killed prison wardress Magdalena Adong, 24, attached to the Uganda Prison Academy and Training School in Luzira on Monday 13, June 2022 night.

Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson says that Adong traveled to Mbarara over the weekend to visit Chemutai, his longtime lover.

According to preliminary police investigations, the two prison warders developed a misunderstanding, which resulted in a quarrel forcing Chemutai to shoot Adong before turning the gun on himself.

He says that police found the killer weapon SMG Rifle No. UG PRI 49001094-01247 with 24 rounds of ammunition and three cartridges at the crime scene. The deceased’s bodies are lying at Mbarara Regional referral hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.

Frank Baine, the Uganda Prisons Spokesperson says the incident is unfortunate for the force describing it as a relationship gone wrong.

He says this is the third incident within the service with the last one happening in November 2021 when a prison warder Fred Walukauo shot and killed his wife Eunice Abenaitwe in Mpigi district.
